It's never fun to do and it's tolerable to just join a kingdom, stay in it and not do anything. These are the things that have to change to make building your kingdom fun in my opinion.

I'm at a rut with what I want to do now. I've got a 99 size army with around 80k denars, and I don't know if I should join a kingdom as a follower, as a mercenary or if I should form my own kingdom. I don't really know if I want to wage war with anyone specific, and I'm worried that if I join a kingdom and they declare war on the entire map then I'll be restricted to one zone for the most part.

And become by far the strongest clan in the kingdom, at one point your king/ queen will die, and you start your journey with a normal amount of wars etc. I got 4 cities and 2 castles in my current run, all with maxed out full garrisons (70% elite troops), as well as tier 6 clan with 30 ish members.
