Both the prodigy's were $1400 OTD at a lgs. so $1,000 savings vs the Staccato for me (for 1 Prodigy vs 1 Staccato). Of course now I want the P, cause buy all the guns. Even if I add an EGW ignition kit to the 5", I'd still be $850 cheaper than the P. For some that is pocket change, for others, not so much.

After shooting both…. There is not a huge difference between the two. I’m very happy that I went with the Springfield Prodigy… easily saved a couple thousand...Staccato does a heros discount which after taxes and the additional mags they give you plus optic plate you save about $600. It’ll put you in the 2100 ball park. For an extra 800 you have a gun that’s CLEARLY more reliable then the prodigy.MSRP for the new Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy is $1,499 for the optics-ready models and $1,699 for those that ship with the Dragonfly. The pistol ships with one 17 and one 20-round mag. And ... This is truly an amazing platform of pistol. the differences between these pistols is like Ferrari vs Corvette. Both are performance machines but one is hand... IMO (having owned a P DUO and picked up a Prodigy this morning) the Staccato has better build quality. The frame and slide finish is superior, the slide to rail fitment is slightly better (slide racks more smoothly on the Staccato) and the Staccato trigger is slightly crisper and lighter. I'd put the Springfield at 95% vs the Staccato's 100%. Takedown is like a 1911, but to remove the spring, plug, and guide rod, the Staccato P has a handy spring-retaining feature. Older STI pistols required using a paper clip or other tools, and guide rods like those found on the Springfield Prodigy require an Allen key to take apart.
