You can't "craft the SMG directly with umbral energy". In order to craft it you need 5 red borders. You can focus the smg directly but it cost umbral energy and engram or I can just take a chance with the ikelos engram. Got it. Wasn't really clear from your description because both ways are umbral focusing, not crafting.There's no way to farm for it. It's in the world drop pool, and then it's just a small chance it will have a red border. If you do get any copies without deepsight, you can use the new deepsight harmonizer currency to make it a red border. However those are available from the season pass (3 on the free track, 3 on the paid track).
