Its really just personal preference. You shouldnt consider gears unless you are considering 37" tires. I believe that you will get better mpg with 35s and stock gears vs 35s and 4.88.

Alot of guys run 35s with just a 3/1 level kit. Alot of it depends on the offset of the wheel.
